Recently I wrote a post about how insanely ridiculous stock photos can be. It was a brilliant post. You should check it out.

As fun as stock photos are to mock, they can be a bit frustrating when you need an image that is actually relevant. Or, you know, good.

With that in mind, a couple of photographers have launched Death to Stock, an image repository for those who have had it with stock photos.

Death to Stock is for creators

The founders of Death to Stock say their goal in creating the service was “to help more brands create rich digital experiences that elevated their visual aesthetic… without shelling out wads of cash, or their sanity.”

Well, cool.

If you scan the site, you’ll immediately see the difference between Death to Stock and typical stock photos. The photos are richer, more vibrant, and younger, meaning you’ll see fancy coffee carafes and men with lumberjack beards and kale salads. Stuff that’s relevant to the current generation of creatives (for some reason).

Death to Stock’s founders says what makes their photos different is the stories behind them.

How Death to Stock works

To receive a free 10-pack of images in your inbox immediately, all you have to do is sign up with your email address on the Death to Stock website. Then, you’ll begin receiving images on a monthly basis.

If you sign up for a premium account, which is $10 a month, you get access to the entire image library and all the stories that come with them.

A percentage of the money from the monthly accounts gets used to fund trips for photographers so they can travel the world taking yet more photos.

So why do you need this?

Having access to quality images is extremely beneficial to bloggers, those who build websites and anyone who needs an image for marketing purposes.

Death to Stock is a welcome respite from the insanity that is stock photos, and I recommend checking it out if you fit the criteria above.
