According to some recent data, the number of active monthly Pinterest users is projected to hit 50 million in the next year.

Seems like a lot, but apparently this is well below Facebook (128 daily users) and Twitter (63 million active monthly users).

So what’s the deal? Why is Pinterest lagging?

Bored with Pinterest? Maybe

I remember hearing a lot about Pinterest for awhile, but it seems like interest has dropped off a bit. This is purely anecdotal, I have no data to back this up.

My personal interest in the platform has definitely dropped a bit. I can only pin so many living rooms I’ll never have or recipes I’ll never try.

Professionally, though, Pinterest is still working for me/Buildicus. In fact, we have more people following us on Pinterest than on Facebook.

So clearly someone is still interested in Pinterest. Lots of someones.

But who?

Pinterest vs marketing

The majority of folks following Buildicus on Pinterest appear to be those in the marketing world. We have boards ranging from food to celebrities to tattoos (why not), but our most popular boards are about social media, blogging and content marketing (also cocktails, which: yes).

So does that mean Pinterest is mostly made up of a bunch of marketing people (like me) pushing their product and following just to get a follow back? If so, that makes it another Google Plus. And we know how well that’s doing.

So do you even care about Pinterest anymore?

Since Pinterest continues to be a source of traffic for Buildicus, I will happily continue to use it.

But I’m still curious about you, the Pinterest user. Are you still using Pinterest for personal enjoyment, or strictly professional reasons?

In other words, should I go back to posting tattoo pics, or stick to content marketing?
