I bought a planner today. [Waits for applause]

I’m really excited about this planner. I’m a person who needs to have a list to work off of, otherwise I don’t accomplish anything.

I’ve been wanting a planner for a while, one divided by day that has plenty of space for notes, and I finally found it at Barnes and Noble. Lookit this beauty:

Nothing fancy, as you can see. The cover is soft – maybe leather? But maybe not since it only cost $14.95. I know a bargain when I see one.

I’m going to use this planner as an editorial and social media calendar — a way to organize Buildicus’s 2015 marketing efforts.

If you’re in charge of marketing your business,  and/or the kind of person that benefits from organizing and writing things down, I suggest you look into getting a planner like this.

Planning Out Blog Posts

One of the things I intend to use this planner for is to plan out my blog posts.

By planning ahead of time what I am going to write about, I can stick to my twice-a-week posting schedule. This planner has tons of room for note-taking, so I can come up with blogging ideas and outlines even if I’m not sitting in front of my computer.

I’m positively giddy about all this space for note-taking:

Yes, I get giddy about written notes. Don’t judge me.

There’s so much room for note-taking, I can use the space to plan out other things, as well, such as …

Planning Out Social Media

I can also use this wonderful new planner for social media. I can plan out what I want to post on the Buildicus Facebook and Twitter timelines, and I can use it to plan out our paid ad campaigns, so I know ahead of time when they’ll run and how much we’ll spend.

I can also look ahead to what holidays and events are coming up, and plan posts based around those.

Get Organized Now, Thank Yourself Later

I know, I know. Using a planner isn’t the most novel idea ever. And there are tons of apps you can download to your phone or tablet that will do all of this in a fancier, more tech-savvy kind of way.

But — and maybe I think this because I’m an Old — nothing beats physically checking something off a list. I also find that thoughts tend to stick in my brain better if I write them down with pen and paper.

Now is obviously the perfect time to get yourself a planner, since it’s the end of the year, and stores are carrying 2015 calendars.

If you start planning next year’s marketing efforts, you’ll be ahead of the game — a great way to start the new year.
