My friend and fellow marketer Anna recently Tweeted about a free app she discovered called Primer.

Primer was created by Google, and is for startup or small business owners who need to know how to market their product, but don’t have the time to go to college and get a degree in the subject. So, like, all of them.

Got 5 Minutes? Get an Education

The best thing about Primer is that it’s very easy to use. Everything is written in a nice, large, easy-to-read font. To access more information, you either scroll up, or click an arrow. Very simple.

The app is divided into three broad subjects:

• Content Marketing

• PR & Media

• Search Marketing

Within each larger subject is a set of more specific topics. For example, the first lesson in Content Marketing is titled “Why Do Content Marketing?”

The lesson takes about 4 minutes to complete, and is very simple to understand. Primer prides itself on being jargon-free.

There’s even a bonus tip that I immediately put into practice before moving on to the next lesson.

The Basics, Right At Your Fingertips

This app is by no means a complete marketing education, but it’s definitely a great way to learn marketing basics quickly.

Right now the app is only available for iPhone, but will be available for Android “soon,” according to the website.

Also, it looks like more topics will be added periodically, and if you go to the FAQs section on the Primer website, you can suggest topics for inclusion.

I suggest giving the app a try if you’re looking to learn a little about marketing your business. It’s free and not at all time-consuming, so you have very little to lose here.

Try Primer and let me know what you think.
