8 things that are wrong with your website (and how to fix them)
In a post titled “These Mistakes Are Costing You Money,” Entrepreneur includes a great infographic showing you where you’re going wrong with your small business website.
I love this graphic for two reasons:
-
Because it’s spot-on and
-
Because it gives me the opportunity to tell you how Buildicus can solve all of these problems for you.
First, check out the infographic (click here for the larger version):
Now. Let’s take these one at a time.
1. No Call To Action
A call to action is brief text or copy that has one purpose: to get customers to complete an action. That action can be anything that benefits your business: calling you for a quote, signing up for your newsletter, adding an item to the shopping cart. It is your way of telling the customer “Do this.” But in a nice way, of course.
An example of a call to action is a bright yellow box on your website that says, “Download my free ebook,” placed next to a sign-up form.
How Buildicus can help you: Buildicus has customizable widgets that allow you to place call to actions and sign-up forms wherever you want on your site.
2. Poor Design
This infographic implies that if you design your site, it will suck, which is not necessarily true. If you keep things fairly simple, and easy to read and navigate, your website will be just fine.
How Buildicus can help you: We can help you throughout the design process if you choose to design your site yourself.
And if you just don’t have the time to do that, Buildicus Concierge can design your whole site for you for a fraction of what other designers will charge you.
3. Time-Consuming Updates
No doubt: updates and maintenance can be a pain in the ass. They’re absolutely necessary, though, to keep your site up and running.
How Buildicus can help you: We handle all updates and maintenance for you. Boom. Simple as that.
4. No Metrics
Metrics are essential for monitoring the success of your website in achieving your goals. If your goal is to get people to check out your pricing page, for example, a service like Google Analytics can tell you how many visitors have clicked on that page in a given time frame.
How Buildicus can help you: Buildicus allows you to enable Google Analytics on your site, so you can check your metrics whenever you want.
5. Poor SEO
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and it’s the practice of using keywords to rank higher on search engines like Google and Bing.
How Buildicus can help you: We automatically ping Google to let them know when your site is updated.
6. No Social Media Links
Social media is an absolutely beneficial tool in sharing your content (blog posts, links to pages on your website, etc). You’ve probably seen social media icons on other websites: the Twitter bird, for example, or the red “P” leading to a company’s Pinterest page.
How Buildicus can help you: Buildicus’s customizable widgets lets you easily drag and drop social media links to your website, allowing visitors to share your content without leaving your site.
7. No Mobile Optimization
Thanks to smartphones and tablets, mobile optimization is a huge deal. How huge? According to Trinity Digital Marketing, “1.2 billion people access the web from their mobile devices.” You know this is true, because you do it yourself.
So obviously, your website has to look good, and function well, across all devices.
How Buildicus can help you: We know how important mobile optimization is, so we make sure that all websites created with Buildicus are mobile friendly.
8. No Designated IT Person
Security is a big deal for websites, especially if you have customers putting in sensitive information like credit card numbers.
How Buildicus can help you: All websites created with Buildicus are hosted on our safe and secure servers.
So, as you can see, most of the things that are wrong with your website are things that can easily be handled by a competent web host. A host like Buildicus.
